ok.i would like say some comments based on ur playing.
nt that my playing very good lah but as a section leader,this is my role.
to make the section sounds good.
first of all,u all have to be discipline.
discipline in terms of full band and also,during sectionals.
in full band,u all have to look at the person conducting.
in other words,FOCUS!
when Mr Lun or whoever conducting is doing section by section,u guys can look at ur parts.
and as for sectionals,u guys have to listen to me (:
please do nt make things difficult for me.
we must practise the parts that we're unsure of.
if there's anything you can ask me.
anytime,anywhere(:

Hello guys!
Came to update the blog because it's dead.
As you all know, we are practising the pieces
for the coming performance on the 19th sep.
Okay, i didnt borrow the scores, so i will try
to remember which bar was it . :x

For Classical Canon,
We was too harsh on the playing.
And we need to practise on bar 45.
The tempo isn't fast, so dont rush :)
Wrong notes here and there, take note.

For Queen Park Melody,
The first note, must start together.
Most importantly, tongue the notes.
At bar 83, where we have the melody,
please remember to tongue too.
especially the semi-quavers.
2nd trumpet, must play high C and not high E
And at the last part ,
please take note of the sharps and flats.
p/s: Good job Huda for the melody :)

For Ascentium,
the pick up from bar 67,
first trumpet can play high D for now.
Bar 78 pickup, first trumpet start first.
High A can changed to high F
Second trumpet can be louder

Do not squeeze, if you squeeze,
the sound will be harder to come out
Practice holding long notes and tongue-ing.
Ohh ya, for all the three scores above,
Take notes of the dynamics and the key signatures
Ohh ya!! Do not rush, follow Mr lun,

SYF is over.
getting a silver is okay.anyway,it's just an award.
what's more meaningful is the effort we put in.
the process we've gone through.
it's what that bring us all together.
but now,we had lost our two trumpeters.

it is so sad to see the seniors step down,especially our one and only
AW WEI ZHENG and JONATHAN LIM ZHI JIAN.
i want to thank both of you for making my day in band.
we laugh,we joke,we had fun together as a section.
i do not know if this will still happen in our section.
now,without wei zheng,i think trumpet section would not be so loud as before.
i hope both of you will come back often.and good luck for ur O Level.

to wei zheng,thank you for teaching us.you are a good SL and a good role model.i think.haha.
u always play the loudest and u r the one who will always lead us.now,i guess it's all up to me.
to jonathan,thank you for entertaining me in band,during sectionals and full band.
and of course,for teaching me when wei zheng is not around.
now,both of you are not beside me anymore.there will be no one to guide me and count for me.and most of all,no one to talk to me when i'm lonely/bored!!!

for the rest of you...
i hope you can work together with me.
although SYF is over,hope all of you can still remember and put in the advices given.
especially the F one,FOCUS.let us all work harder.

Alright, this blog seemed to be dead,(latest post was on the syf day)

my dear juniors, realli enjoyed the times we spent together. though my face seemd to be very black, but as u noe, i realli cared for u guys..

times realli flies ah, realli get to noe u guys better and better during the SYF intensive...

To lihua and weizheng... though u guys may be in first trumpet, but nvr be too proud of urself. u will nvr noe when u will fall down. do rmb to take good care of jonathan and miao qiao. teach them how to play. teach them how to love one another. what i wanna see is a united trumpet section

to jonathan... thx ah, always checking ur watch during band practices and haiz here haiz there. and HUH at the moment they announce band will end late... work hard, u still have 2 more years in band. work hard, be a good trumpeter and join weizheng at first trumpet.

To miao qiao. who cares if u are in third trumpet. what matter most is how u play.azmi is now third trumpet is SWS. play well, have confidence. u are lacking of confidence now lah, work hard.. and join the band for the next syf.

I am realli glad to be in this section. a section of laughter, with seniors like atiqah, zakir, kailing and not forgetting my dear azmi.(where's my treat?)hahas... learn how to play well, learn how to care and learn how to love.

anyway guys...syf just around the corner...it's maybe too late for us to really work on the piece and make it really perfect...cos definitely lots more to work on...we only have 18 days...and minus of the days u all have classes and weekends...we have less than 10 days of practise...but if u all really hardworking...u will bring ur trumpets back...but i bet all of u will practise hard la...anyway im saying this nt only for our section la...if we can do welll then the rest play like shit...we cant be as one...so just giving u all some last minute stuff la...just listen to each other more now...and try to sound as close to each other...focus more...er try listen to the song hundred time till u noe the rhythm very well...and play together...start the note together...ohk anyway...nothing much u can do la...just do ur best and practise hard...see u all on the syf day...

Hey trumpooties! I recorded some parts of sunrise(for us to listen only), & realise... We werent tonguing properly! Let's work on the bar 15 part. Its easy, just follow the indication of where to tongue. Its marked with pencil.

Its a must that you tongue it! Not too vigorously, just tongue it with average strength. Cos it sounded sluggish as though we were just back from a marathon & lacked in energy. You can get the recording from me if you want. It was terrible, believe me. Do take note! We cant get away with it much.

& i think we may want to record more, cos we dont know how we sound like. Although the recording isnt of superb quality i could still hear the mistakes clearly, what mistakes do you think the judges would detect!

Let's look. How long have we been playing "when the tears fell"? Its high time that we take note whatever Mr lun had mentioned, like a thousand times already.

Here are what Mr. lun had been saying all the time, but seemed to be washed off your minds in the next practise. I think we should just write those small little things to take note of in our scores already.

Bar 21- Trumpet two & threes, tongue the notes, & make sure it doesnt get too detached, nor should you drag your notes. Tongue, tongue, tongue. Take turns to breathe, bcos we dont want everyone to breathe together.

Bar 38- Emphasise on the crescendo, & not forgetting to accent on the third note.

Bar 39(& all the way to bar 45, )- Dont rush the triplets, cos its going to sound really messy, & woodwinds cant catch up with the fast tempos that they have to keep up with if you rush your triplets. Compromise with the woodwinds. The third note has to be shortshortshort!

Bar 51- You really have to make it short, short, short! Its so obvious that its driggy draggy. The only exceptions are the dotted crochets. Im not saying those with the dot on top or below them, cos those are staccatos. Its those at the right side of each note.

Bar 56- Accent the first notes of each triplets. Make it as clear as possible. Practise it slowly first if you cant.

Bar 69- There is a diminuendo, so reduce in loudness gradually, not abruptly.

Bar 96- Trumpet soli! Its very exposed. Its mp, so spare on the volume, if not you'd have difficulty with the crescendo bars after. & its so easy to get it out of tune. Its common that we'd get the G sharp. Try to listen & play as in tune as possible. I know its very tough. & i always get the note flat. ): Dont rush the three of your notes after the holding note G. I know i always do that, & im sorry. I should note it in my score!

Bar 116: Imagine it as a whole string of those notes. Attempt it as smooth as possible. Hold full values!

This is something i found from a trumpet web. Do read it if you have the time.

The first step:
"The first step in determining a practice schedule is to define your goals and level of commitment. The more time you are willing to devote towards improvement, the greater your results."

"It is my firm belief that many of us were never taught correctly. We were taught to concentrate on individual pieces of music for concerts, or exercises from band method books, and not on the basic skills that are required to play the trumpet! Practice as consistently as possible and try to never skip more than one day of practice."

There's actually more, but i dont think you'd be reading them all, cos they're very long. I'd extract some that're what i think are key points. Haha, i know it sounds like science notes. But sure its better than those!

High notes:
-It's not the QUANTITY of air, but the SPEED of the air stream. Playing high notes actually requires quite a small quantity of air.
-Tongue Position should also be addressed. Saying ‘ah’ lowers the tongue and increase the ‘VOLUME’ of air. We don't want volume, but a Super Fast Air Stream. Saying ‘ee’ arches the tongue and 'INCREASES AIR SPEED' for high note playing.

"You should not puff your cheeks at anytime, check in a mirror. If you are puffing your cheeks, take your hand and literally hold your checks in, until your muscles are strong enough to do it on its own. Your goal is to obtain this Super Fast Air Stream INSTANTLY. It is the air speed, combined with lip and tongue position, that will give you success in the upper register."

I think that's all for this post, cos you might not feel like reading it all. I think these advises are quite useful for myself so far. But by reading these along without practising, its totally useless. So dont bother to read if you dont have the intention of practising. HAHA. =D But chaonehneh, you read it already what. Lol.
